TH11-12 War Strategy: Mass Electro Dragons (e-drags)

Although usually a safe 2-star strategy, mass Electro Dragons can lead to 3-stars on the right base.

Suggested Troops and Spells:

  • Siege Machine:  Stone Slammer, filled with Balloons
  • Grand Warden set to AIR
  • lots of Electro Dragons
  • some Balloons, but not too many
  • possibly a couple Minions for clean up
  • if doing a Queen Walk, use 4 Healers
  • 3-4 Rage Spells
  • 2-4 Freeze Spells
  • 1 Heal Spell
  • possibly a Clone Spell
  • possibly a Haste Spell for a group of Balloons

How It Works:

  1. Heros:  The King and Queen help to create your funnel.  If one or both of them can take down the Town Hall, that would be very helpful.  Also, if the Queen can shoot down an Air Defense, that would be ideal.  You usually do NOT want the King or Queen to lure out the enemy CC, to prevent ground troops (such as an Ice Golem) or LavaHound or Balloons to come out.  E-Drags will only lure out CC troops that can target Air.
  2. E-Drags, Balloons, and Stone Slammer:  They push through the base, hitting the Town Hall early (if hitting a TH12) and possibly also the Eagle Artillery early.
  3. Grand Warden’s Ability:  At TH12, use the Grand Warden’s ability to keep the E-Drags alive through the Giga Tesla’s explosion.  At TH11, use the Grand Warden’s ability timed with the mortar hits from the Eagle Artillery, possibly also when the E-Drags engage the enemy CC troops.
  4. Rage Spells and Freeze Spells:  At TH12, use one of your rage spells through the Giga Tesla.  Freeze spells must be used on key targets — more info below.
  5. Heal Spell:  To keep the E-Drags alive once they’ve pushed halfway through the base, you’ll need to use a Heal Spell.  Otherwise, the Electro Dragons will fizzle out before they can finish off the base.

What Should the Freeze Spells be Used on?

The main enemy to Electro Dragons is the Air Sweeper.  E-Drag attacks can completely fail if an Air Sweeper is consistently pushing the E-Drags back, preventing them from shooting their targets.  So if an Air Sweeper is blowing towards your E-Drags, you must use a Freeze Spell on it, probably more than once.

Other than the Air Sweeper, Single-Target Inferno Towers are also bad for E-Drags, and therefore may warrant using a Freeze Spell.  Other considerations for using a Freeze Spell include:  TH12 Giga Tesla, Air Defenses, and maybe the Eagle Artillery.

Types of Bases Where This Strategy Can 3-Star:

As the video below will explain, bases that have many structures that are side-by-side or only have 1 tile between them are excellent for E-Drag attacks due to the chain-link of the E-Drag’s lightning shots.  If you can chain-link the Electro Dragon’s shots through upcoming Air Defenses, then there won’t be much remaining in the base to stop the E-Drags.  Also, Multi-Target Infernos are ideal for E-Drags, due to their high hitpoints.

Check out the video below, by Clash with Eric, showing some variety in how to use Electro Dragons, including a couple attacks that use a Clone Spell.

Using Electro Dragons, with a Delayed BLIMP, for TH11 vs. TH12:

Electro Dragons can also be used for TH11’s to attack TH12’s, even if the Town Hall is centered within the base.  The idea is:

  1. Do a traditional E-Drag attack (with some Balloons), but NO Heal Spell — only Rages and Freezes (maybe a Clone Spell)
  2. After the E-Drags have taken out a side/section from the base and are just about dead, bring a Battle Blimp from the same side the E-Drags came from (so that there won’t be extra Black Air Mines or Air Defenses to shoot the Blimp down early).  Make sure your Blimp has max Balloons or maybe max Valkyries inside.  Save a Freeze Spell and a Rage spell for when the Blimp pops open at the Town Hall, so that your troops can destroy it safely.
  3. Use your King and Queen to get extra percentage, taking out as many buildings as they can.  If possible, also have a few Archers or Minions to take down exposed/accessible buildings for extra percentage.

It goes without saying that you should practice this in Friendly Challenge before using it in war.  Our clan has found that it can lead to 2-Stars with the percent damage between 50-60%.
